Sanborn Orthodontics is proud to offer the Sanborn Smiles Scholarship Program. Our goal is to change lives of school-aged children through orthodontics and have a positive impact on our communities. A smile can inspire hope, increase self-confidence, and change a community. Dr. Sanborn and the volunteer board have provided 50+ scholarships for a total of over $275,000 of orthodontic treatment through our previos partner program.
Our Mission
With Sanborn Smiles Scholarship Program, it is our mission to create self-confidence, inspire hope, and change the lives of children in our community in a dramatic way. The gift of a smile can do all this for deserving, underserved individuals who in turn can use this gift to better themselves and our community.
Words from Dr. Sanborn: “Our Mission Statement above sums up everything we are trying to do with our program, and it is our way of giving back to the community that has been so gracious to us! It is our goal every year to give ten to twelve orthodontic scholarships to the children in our local community to help create self-confidence, inspire hope, and change their lives in a dramatic way. It is our hope that this gift of a smile will, in turn, allow them to better themselves and our local community."

A few notes about the application process
Letters of recommendation are mandatory. Please submit no more than two letters, each no more than one page in length. Make sure the letters are typed. If you haven't had a consultation in our office before, please call and schedule one so that we can take the necessary pictures and xrays to assess the applicant. Since this is a need-based gift, we must be able to assess the applicant’s orthodontic need accurately in order to consider him or her.
Once submitted, the application, pictures, and letters of recommendation become the sole property of the Sanborn Smiles Scholarship Program and will not be returned. Before you submit the application and support materials, please make copies for your records.
The applicant must be a resident of Carteret, Craven or Onslow County. You may not apply to more than one foundation. The program reserves the right to disqualify applicants that are determined to live outside of the local area.
Incomplete applications and applicants that do not meet the above requirements will not be voted upon by the board of directors. The board shall meet twice a year (Spring and Fall) to determine and distribute awards and award notifications.
It must be noted that neither Dr. Sanborn nor his orthodontic team chooses the recipients. They have only committed to provide the orthodontic services to the selected candidates. The recipients are chosen by an independent board of directors, who in no way entertain any bias or influence toward the candidates who are chosen.
Applications will be reviewed twice a year, and the ones chosen will be contacted by the Sanborn Orthodontics team upon selection by the board of directors.
