Dr. Robert Sanborn is known for his unique perspective and artistic skills, and his ability to provide quality orthodontic treatment results with clinical efficiency. Other than creating beautiful smiles, he has a reputation for his “silly antics” that drive his team “crazy.” Dr. Sanborn is glad you have chosen our practice, and he looks forward to meeting you soon!
Dr. Sanborn met his wife Lori Beth, a Morehead City native, in December 2001. They are currently living in Morehead City with three children Bennett, Noah, and Anna Tate, a dog named Jackson, AND two cats: the calico Zoe and the tabby Sadie. Lori Beth loves coming in to “visit” us at Sanborn Orthodontics during her busy schedule at home with a toddler and volunteering in the community, church, and local schools.
Dr. Sanborn enjoys spending time with his wife and family, golfing, boating, gardening, traveling, fishing, and running. He and his family are active members of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
Education and Continuing Education
Dr. Sanborn was born and raised in the western part of North Carolina and is excited to be part of the Crystal Coast community. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received his BS in biology with a minor in chemistry.
While in college, he was recognized for several prestigious achievements: the Dean’s List as well as the National Dean’s List, vice-president of the Delta Delta Sigma Pre-Dental Honor Society, and Order of Omega Honor Society. In addition, he was an active member of his fraternity, Pi Lambda Phi, and held the offices of vice-president and president of the Gamma Pledge Class of the Omega Beta chapter.
After college, Dr. Sanborn attended the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, and graduated at the top of his class in 2005. In 2006, he also received a master’s in public health from UNC School of Public Health. These achievements helped earn him a position in the orthodontic residency program at the UNC School of Dentistry, from which he graduated in May 2009.
While at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, Dr. Sanborn was active in the American Student Dental Association, American Dental Education Association, and UNC Student Research Group, and served as vice-president and president of the UNC School of Dentistry student body. Dr. Sanborn is also a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics.
A true gadget guy, Dr. Sanborn is always up for a technology lesson! He enjoys spending time planning the treatment for his orthodontic cases, furthering his orthodontic practice through new ideas, practicing the latest treatment techniques, and attending continuing education meetings. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the North Carolina Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Southeastern Damon Study Club, Lookout Rotary, and the Carteret County Dental Society.
